The public debut of Baby Berto 2.0

Last week we finally got to see the newest member of our family. We don’t yet know if it’s a boy or a girl, but we do know that so far all is normal, strong and healthy. There’s only one in there and all appendages (except for one more, hopefully) are accounted for.

What a relief.

You can’t go into an ultrasound or a well-baby appointment expecting the worst. But, you have to be ready for it still somehow just in case. So, to see this perfect outline of Thing 2 has lifted the first weight of parenthood off my shoulders. There’s many more weights that will come off. And, there’s likely more that will be put on.

There’s not many words that can describe how it feels to see the little arms and legs flailing around or the blurred outline of the heart as it pumps away. Pure joy knowing that there’s a happy little baby in there and that in just 27 short weeks or so, we’ll get to meet it.

27 more weeks. It sounds so long, yet I know how fast it’s going to go. Now, please meet Baby Berto 2.0:

We made a big baby, go figure

It’s not common to have an ultrasound at 39 weeks, 5 days. But that’s what we did this morning. As you can imagine, I am pretty capable of making a big baby.

I was 10 lbs, 21 inches

Kelci was 8 lbs 8 oz

All three of my sisters were 10 days late and bigger babies.

And now let me introduce you to Kylah, who as of this morning’s ultrasound is approximately 9 lbs.

Meet Kylah. Sorry for the glare, but it's a picture of a picture. It's what I could do.

The doctor isn’t worried. She wants us to carry on and wait for a natural labor to start. All of the pieces are there and all of her systems are working wonderfully. Oh, and she’s definitely still a she.

We won’t get beyond 41 weeks, though, so by the end of next week, we’ll be welcoming Baby Berto into this world and out of her comfortable home.

It's a girl

And little girl parts!!! That’s right, Kelci and I are having a:

BABY GIRL!

The ultrasound tech was very sure of this as well, so we’re going to run with it.

We’re excited to begin the next phase of getting ready for Baby Girl Berto. Things such as buying pink Seahawks clothes or princess-themed bedding. Now, what to name her…

Playing the guessing game

Let’s have some fun. We’re scheduled for our next ultrasound on March 18. We should be able to find out if we’re having a Baby Boy Berto or Baby Girl Berto. I’ll tell you, I am pulling for a boy. For a number of reasons really, which I’ll probably get into if it ends up being a girl.

But for now, let’s have fun. Post in the comments what you think we’re having. I’ll pick somebody from the winning “team” and give them a prize.
